Sophie M. (Brody) Joseph

86, passed away January 3, 2023.  She was born December 7, 1936  to Anna and Andrew Brody in the Southside of Pittsburgh overlooking the steel mills, the youngest of 11 children.  Married to her lifelong partner Joe for over 60 years before he went to be with the Lord, they resided in Baldwin and she still was able to remain in her home with the help of her sons until her health declined.  She is survived by her children Paul, Joey, Dorothy (Vincent), Greg Vincent, and her "only" grandson Gregory she would affectionately say, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Joe and all her brothers and sisters.
 An avid volunteer in the churches, she was a stranger to no one and talked to everyone she would meet with a dimpled smile and kind words.  She did not have a driver's license  and used public transportation when she was able if a relative, neighbor, or friend didn't see her first dropping her off at her destination.   Upon awakening, she would daily thank God for another day of life and to keep her going strong and often repeated the quote "if you don't move it, you lose it." Reflecting on her mother's words, she would remind us all ""you can't hide under the bed when God calls you home."
The family would like to especially thank the staff at UPMC Mercy and Promedica Whitehall Med-Bridge Unit and Hospice for the compassionate care she received.  In keeping with Mom's giving spirit, she wanted to donate as much of herself as possible to help others and requested no services.  She will join her husband at the Black Hills National Cemetery.
